NEWS

Only half way through 2020, and it is clear that this year will be remembered by many Australians as a turbulent, uncertain and devastating one, particularly with COVID-19 and the bushfires earlier in the year. However, we are very proud of our CMV Group employees who, during difficult times, have continued to show kindness and generosity through contributing to the CMV Group Staff Foundation, where these funds go on to make a positive difference to those in our community.

With the devastation and destruction caused by the bushfires across the country, much of the the CMV Group Staff Foundation's attention has been focused on supporting victims, with contributions to Australian Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, Foodbank, and the Victorian CFA Brigades. However, thanks to the generous contributions from our staff, we have also been able to support the great work of many other worthy organisations over the past few months, such as Heart & Soul and Vision Australia.

Here is some more information about the organisations and initiatives we have supported so far in 2020.

Foodbank Victoria

Foodbank are a not-for-profit organisation focusing on emergency food relief for people who are disadvantaged. Foodbank is Australia’s largest food relief organisation, providing more than 70% of the food rescued to food relief organisations nation-wide.

Our most recent donation has assisted Foodbank's emergency response team, which was formed in an effort to quickly provide meals and toiletries to fire-affected families, regions and firefighters.

Australian Red Cross

The Australian Red Cross continue to work towards their vision of human dignity, peace, safety and well-being for all, by building a community based on people helping people.

The CMV Group Staff Foundation also provided assistance to victims of the bushfires by donating to the Red Cross Bushfire Appeal, which will help to support families who have sadly lost homes, livelihood and properties during the fires.

Heart & Soul

Heart & Soul is a volunteer-based food relief group that strives to create a South Australia where food is not wasted and no one goes hungry. The organisation assists over 3,000 people every week across four different locations, by distributing free fruit, vegetables, bakery and pantry items to vulnerable people within the community.

The CMV Group Staff Foundation, in partnership with the CMV Group Foundation and the Kirsten Charity Trust, has donated two new Hino refrigerated trucks to Heart & Soul. One truck will replace a vehicle that was burnt in an arson attack late last year, while the second truck will allow them to expand the reach of the free food markets they run each week across Adelaide. Thank you to the team at CMI Hino Adelaide for facilitating this exciting delivery!

CFA Victoria

CFA Victoria is a volunteer and community-based fire and emergency services organisation. Their vision is to work together with communities to keep Victorians safe from fire and other emergencies.

During the devastating bushfire season in Victoria earlier this year, the CFA played a major role in the emergency response across the state. The CMV Staff Foundation was able to make a donation directly to the Victorian CFA Brigades Donations Fund, which contributed to and assisted with the firefighting efforts in Victoria.

Cancer Council

Mark Griffiths, from CMI Toyota Christies Beach took part in the Cancer Council's Undies Run in January.

Every dollar raised by participants goes towards funding Cancer Council SA’s bowel cancer research, prevention, advocacy and support programs for South Australians impacted by cancer.

Those who took part this year ran around Adelaide Oval in their undies during the Adelaide Strikers vs Melbourne Renegades Big Bash match. Congratulations to Mark for raising more funds than any other participant this year!

Vision Australia

Vision Australia's Seeing Eye Dog Program helps to enhance the mobility and independence of people who are blind or vision impaired throughout Australia by providing Seeing Eye Dogs, mobility training and rehabilitation services.

The aim of the program is to raise and train dogs that are able to assist people who are blind or have low vision to gain more independence, while also providing ongoing support for clients to ensure that they continue to work well together with their assistance dog.

The foundation has recently started sponsoring a new puppy named Ludo (pictured). This will be the sixth puppy the CMV Group Staff Foundation has sponsored over the years!

Blind Sports SA

Blind Sports SA aims to increase community awareness of the the skills and abilities of blind or vision impaired people in sports. This includes educating people on how sports can be modified to include participants with a disability.

The Staff Foundation's donation will cover regional and metropolitan wages for coaches, administration costs and travel expenses, including accommodation, incidentals and transport.

Disabled Surfers Association

The Disabled Surfers Association of Australia strives to ensure that all persons with an intellectual or physical disability can enjoy a day at the beach and try catching a wave.

Hayley Cox of CMI Toyota Christies Beach, along with Russell, a long time guest, brought this cause to the Staff Foundation's attention, resulting in a donation that will help DSA to purchase a shelter to be used during warmer weather.
